Charity website supporting hospitality and bar staff throughout the UK.

UK Charity Website Design & Development

As well as working directly with clients, we also work with other creative agencies, such as Fleet Street; a PR and Communications agency based in London. Fleet Street came to us in the summer of 2023, requesting a top-line proposal and quote for the new Licensed Trade Charity website. We love working with charities and non-profit organisations that champion good causes, so we were more than happy to pitch for this project.

We performed a top-line review of the website, focussed on streamlining content to help improve the user experience and make overall site management easier for the LTC team.

By suggesting the removal of redundant or duplicated content, we were able to focus the budget on the areas where it was needed most. This included multiple web forms, some of which were hidden from public view and required complex CRM integrations.

We were awarded the project in the early autumn of 2023, and through a series of workshops and design sprints, helped the LTC identify the best solution to help them meet their goals and bring their website in line with the rest of their marketing materials.

“I would highly recommend working with Greg and the team at LWDA. We have recently collaborated on the design and build of a new website for LTC, and I have been very impressed with the level of knowledge and expertise demonstrated by the team, as well as the ability to quickly get things up and running.“

Associate Director at Fleet Street

Design Goals & Objectives

The original LTC website had become a tangled mess of content, much of which contained duplicate information or was valuable but buried so far within the page hierarchy that it was hard to find. This caused frustration for the end-user and the administrative team, who found it tricky to manage the hundreds of pages that had built up over time. This along with an outdated design that was not aligned with the rest of the charities’ branding meant that a new website had to be designed & built from the ground up.

Key requirements for the new website included:

  1. A clean and modern website design that was informed by the new brand guidelines and other on-and-offline marketing communications.
  2. Mobile-first approach for the growing number of mobile users.
  3. Easier navigation so users can find the information they require as quickly as possible.
  4. Clear CTAs that helped drive donations as well as contact with the charity from those who need help or who would like to help.
  5. WordPress CMS for easy content management, including blog migration from the old site.
  6. Integration of web forms with Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
  7. Secure, fast hosting platform.

The branding work completed by Fleet Street formed the foundation of the design and was a pleasure to work with. The result was an eye-catching website design, with an aesthetic that was impactful but not dazzling.

Responsive Mobile Web Design for UK Charity Website

Charity Web Development

Our experience as WordPress experts was in part responsible for us winning the opportunity to work with the Licensed Trade Charity. We knew how to properly organise the websites’ CMS and content to make life easier for their admin team; and how to advise on the future organisation and use of blog categories & tags, the number of which had become a little overwhelming.

The WordPress theme itself was completely bespoke to the client’s needs. Pages are built using a range of content blocks rather than relying on rigid pre-built page templates, which are often too inflexible for today’s marketing teams.

As the site requirements grow over time, new blocks can be designed & built on an ad-hoc basis. This helps manage the ongoing marketing budget and keep the learning curve to a minimum.

Finally, there are a total of eight unique forms on the website. Some are accessible directly from the navigation such as the contact page, whilst others are hidden from regular site users, such as the support application form. Each form required integration with Microsoft Dynamics and thorough testing before & after launch, making sure users could still access open support cases.

Our minimal code approach combined with a WordPress-optimised hosting platform delivers fast page-load speeds, with Google’s PageSpeed Insights showing us how well the site is performing at this early stage.

We are gathering additional data using Google Analytics, Search Console and SEMrush. These stats, user behaviour and user feedback will inform our ongoing support work, focusing on further UX improvements and new content ideas.

The Licensed Trade Charity is very happy with the new website and the way that it functions. We look forward to building a long-term relationship with the LTC, helping them create an online platform that fully supports their users, making lives easier and reducing stress in the process.
